What makes you different than other muralists? I do mural paintings as a hobby, rather than a job. This enables me to offer my work at a lower rate than competitors, while allowing my clients to enjoy murals/characters in their homes at an affordable price.
I want a mural but am not sure what. What should I do? I am happy to brainstorm some ideas with you and we can work together to decide what will work best with your style and what’s in the room it will go in.
I want a mural next week for my kid’s birthday, can you do it by then? This will depend on the type of project you are looking for and my schedule. Most murals can be completed in a day or two.
What is the process? Once we plan out exactly what you are looking for, I will draft up a contract for both of us to sign. This will include the details and start/end dates for the project. Using a projection technique, I will outline the entire project in pencil or chalk. At this point you are welcome to review and make any adjustments. I will then paint/complete the project. My goal is to make you happy and the artsy side of me will always go above and beyond to make a mural I am proud of and one that you can enjoy for years to come.
How long does it take to finish a project? This will depend on both of our schedules and the size/detail of the project. A few characters could take half a day, whereas a full room mural could take a week/long weekend. Depending on how long of a day I can work, it may be completed much sooner than estimated. I am up early morning and late at night, so I happy to work around your schedule. In the end, I will want to take my time and do it correctly, so any additional time that is needed will be at my expense, not yours.
What is the best room for murals? This will depend on what mural you are doing. Kids bedrooms, play rooms, game rooms and bathrooms are great places for a mural, but I would hate to limit it to that, because a mural could go great in any room of the house. If you own a business, the waiting room or rooms where you meet with patients would be a nice place to have fun murals to admire.
How much does it cost? Great question. Since everyone’s projects are personalized, the price will vary. My hand-painted murals typically cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. Since this is more of a hobby than a career, I am happy to work with you on a price that is fair. Click here to view a better breakdown of what goes into the pricing.
What form of payment do you accept? Cash (10% off!), Paypal, and major credit cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover).
Do you offer discounts or bonuses? Yes! You will receive a 10% discount if you pay with cash. Additionally, if you refer someone who completes a project, you will get $25 for getting me a new fun project to work on. With enough referrals, your project could be free! Additional discounts may be given!
Where are you located? I am located in Northern Virginia, but am able to travel some distance based on project size.
What surface can you paint on? To date, I have only painted on regular walls (drywalls with primer/paint). However, murals can be done on brick, concrete and wood.
What type of place do you typically do your work? I work mainly with residential homes, but am happy to work at a place of business – such as a daycare or other place where customers (and employees) would enjoy it. I have never worked on an outdoor project, but may be open to it, if that’s what you are looking for. My favorite projects are ones with 2-3 foot characters but am happy to work with any project, large or small.
What is your style of painting? I consider myself really good at cartoon-type characters and scenes. My favorite projects are ones with 2-3 foot characters but am happy to work with any project, large or small.
What kind of materials do you use? I find that Acrylic paints are the best medium. They have such a wide range of colors and if I’m painting something green, I like to be able to use three different greens to give it depth and make it look more realistic. The acrylic paints blend in so well with the existing wall and leave no shiny or oily residue as other mediums may. They are quick drying and water soluble for easy cleanup. I also have a wide range of brushes to work efficiently with large and small scale painting and am able to use smaller brushes to add shadows and detailing.
Do you use wall decals or graphic stickers? No. Everything is hand-painted directly onto the wall. However, my paintings have been mistaken for decals. I’ve had people ten feet back comment and then when they find out it’s painted, they have to walk up and pet it to confirm. haha
Do I need to prepare anything? If you are able to clear anything out of the way (like large furniture pieces) this is very helpful. I want your belongings to be best protected and also want to do my very best with minimal obstacles. The wall also needs to be prepared and ready to paint on. You will not want there to be any holes splatters or other debris, as this can ruin the painting.
Do I need a building permit? No. If you are just doing a painting inside your home, there is no need for any permits.
How long does a mural last? Because of the type of paint used, it should last for several years. Should you need any touchups over the years, you are welcome to contact me to fix or update your mural.
